"Representing The Interests of Police and Veterans"

Georgia House District 130
Representative Debbie Buckner

Incumbent

Issue

March 2007

Bulletin

Representative Buckner contacted the association via phone and e-mail. She is reviewing our request, reference O.C.G.A. 16-12-60 amendment. The presidents and commanders of the various police and veterans organizations are reporting that they have not received any response from this member or her colleagues in the Columbus Delegation of the Georgia General Assembly concerning our plight. Letters reference this legislation went out in February to all local Commanders and Presidents.
December 2007 Bulletin Since the bulletin in March 2007, the Coalition has met with Representative Buckner and two of her colleagues in the Columbus Delegation Representative Carolyn Hugley and Senator Seth Harp. The meeting was a productive one. All three pledged their support for amending the current law. However, all of them expressed a desire that the coalition assist them with this effort, during bill's introduction phase and while it makes it way through the process of both the House and Senate Chambers. Therefore, the coalition leadership on this issue asks each Chapter, Lodge, Post and Club Commander/President to personally contact their legislators in their House/Senate District and request that he/she support and become a sponsor or co-sponsor of this legislation. In addition, communicate with your executive committees/boards and your membership and ask them to also contact their legislators about this issue.

Elected officials are important to our members and the Georgia law enforcement community. Because we are public officers, we are dependant upon our elected officials at all levels of Georgia government for support. As our members cannot personally meet with each individual candidate, our legislative-governmental affairs committee strives to learn the position of each candidate on the issues of interest to our members, the Georgia law enforcement and military communities and the voters at large and make recommendations as to which candidate we believe will best represent and support our interests.
