Did not support the coalition on amending O.C.G.A.
16-12-60. This amending legislation is badly needed so
that our peace officer/veterans organizations can continue
to provide our membership with programs and services. The
Southern States Police and Veterans Coalition, Inc. legislative committee
will take the lead in making sure that all peace officers
and veterans in District House 129 know the facts about
this legislation and why it is needed. Mr. Smith and his
colleagues in the House were made aware of why the
police/veterans organizations need this change. Also, Mr.
Smith never contacted the President or any of the
enumerated signatory's on the legislation, after receiving the
initial legislation. So evidently police and veterans are
not very high on Mr. Smith's agenda. Mr. Smith was issued
an invitation to attend this important meeting. However, he
never responded to the letter and did not show for the
meeting. |

Vote 2008 |
Elected officials are important to
our members and the Georgia law enforcement community. Because we
are public officers, we are dependant upon our elected officials at
all levels of Georgia government for support. As our members cannot
personally meet with each individual candidate, our
legislative-governmental affairs committee strives to learn the
position of each candidate on the issues of interest to our members,
the Georgia law enforcement and military communities and the voters
at large and make recommendations as to which candidate we believe
will best represent and support our interests.
